Case Study: British Museum – Framework Contract

The Challenge

The British Museum is one of the most important cultural institutions in the UK.  It attracts and develops exhibitions of some of the most significant historical objects in the world.

In 2001 Romec was selected to deliver mechanical and electrical installation projects under a measured term contract for a period of up to six years.  In 2007, we were awarded the contract for a further five years.

Today, we continue to supply a full range of building services to help the museum manage and protect its collections, and provide memorable experiences for its visitors.

The Solution

We’ve put in place ways of working that really help to deliver great projects for the museum.  For example, we programme projects precisely and fully engage with our supply chain.  This allows us to develop strong communication with the British Museum and ensure wherever possible that the opening hours of the site are not compromised during our works.

The Results

Over the last few years we’ve helped to deliver some key works and unforgettable exhibitions:

  • We replaced chiller units to keep the Japanese Gallery working at optimum conditions
  • We installed a complete range of services for the Virtual Mummy IMAX exhibition
  • We prepared the Round Reading Room for the ground breaking First Emperor: China’s Terracotta Army exhibition, the largest the museum had staged in over four decades
