Romec and Sabien Technology team up
Facilities management company Romec has signed a contract to become a nationwide installation partner for Sabien technology's (Sabien) boiler optimisation control unit.
Sabien's M2G has the ability to reduce energy consumption typically by between 10 to 25 percent ensuring businesses make a big impact for low cost in reducing their carbon footprint.
Carl Roberts Romec Energy Development Manager said: "It is widely believed that existing Building Management Systems (BMS) can replicate M2G, this however this not case. M2G is a patented cost effective solution designed to specifically remove dry cycling, requiring no maintenance or ongoing programming. M2G integrates and complements existing Building Management Systems therefore delivering further savings."
M2G can be fitted to new or existing boilers and monitors the temperature of the water flow and return every 10 seconds, enabling the M2G to identify and remove dry cycling a common problem found in commercial boilers. Additional features include functionality for two stage burners, single or modulating boilers, therefore maximising boiler efficiency under all conditions.
Around 80 per cent of commercial boilers are oversized for their application, having a greater heating capacity than what is required from the actual building because they are generally designed to provide a continual and comfortable working environment, no matter what the outside conditions are.
Carl Roberts added: "When a loading demand is made the system automatically checks the latest data it has stored, and decides whether the load demand is a genuine call for heat from the building or whether the boiler is firing to recover its own heat loss therefore wasting energy.
"This results in large reductions in fuel during less demanding situations, while ensuring maximum capacity during heavy periods."
During warmer months, heating demand reduces with a boiler typically only being used for hot water, meaning that energy wastage is at its highest when the boiler is being turned on and off excessively, which is known as "dry cycling".
Therefore, they take into account the worst case weather scenarios, and for when they are out of operation for maintenance and repairs, again causing oversizing and for boilers to cycle on and off.
M2G has been installed in blue chip organisations such as RBS, AVIVA, DEFRA, Environment Agency, Vodafone and O2. Typically payback is delivered within six months to two years.
British mobile phone network operator O2 carried out post installation tests on two of their sites fitted with M2G and the results demonstrated an average energy savings of 27 per cent and 16 per cent, with total annual CO2 savings of 196 tonnes.
