Romec Sets Sail

Romec is helping passengers of the Queen Mary 2 keep in touch with family and friends thanks to a refurbished 1930’s era pillar-box installed on the ship.

Romec Manufacturing, specialists in designing, manufacturing and installing a materials handling equipment for the mail industry, refurbished the box at its Newcastle production plant.

A Romec Street Furniture technician installed the pillar-box while the ship was berthed in Southampton for routine maintenance and is used by passengers to post letters and postcards back home.

The red pillar box is a well known and much loved symbol of our heritage and is a small reminder of home for many of the 2,600 passengers the Queen Mary 2 accommodates, said Production Manager, Kevin Fowles.

Romec Manufacturing supplies mail collection, processing and delivery equipment, including post-boxes, sorting frames and delivery trolleys to mail administrations in the UK and overseas.
