Case Study: Royal Mail – East London Mail Centre

The Challenge


Royal Mail Group own and operate one of the most diverse property portfolios in the UK.  It includes more than 2,000 sites and contains a mixture of mail processing centres, garages, post offices and parcel hubs.

Royal Mail chose Romec to help them create a new mail processing centre in London. The building had to be fully operational by the time Christmas approached and mail volumes increased.  Failure to hit this deadline would mean that Royal Mail would need to take out temporary space in which to process mail.

The Solution


The project involved the installation and commissioning of all the mechanical and electrical services to the mail centre.

This included high and low voltage mains, distribution systems, power, internal and external lighting, emergency lighting, fire detection, CCTV, as well as heating, cooling, domestic hot water services and building management system controls.

The Results


Despite building delays, which meant we had to re-programme works and accelerate our commissioning programme, Royal Mail’s site was up and running on schedule.
