McCarthy & Stone

The Challenge

McCarthy & Stone is one of the UK’s leading retirement homebuilders, with around 120 developments throughout the country stretching from Inverness to Plymouth, and administration centres in eight key geographical regions. They were looking for preventative and corrective maintenance services to the mechanical and electrical (ME) plant and to provide minor internal fabric works, plumbing and gas services. In particular they wanted to be able to manage costs effectively.

The Solution

Romec delivered against all requirements and added a number of important elements. All members of the Building Maintenance Services team use the new ‘toughbook’ technology, to make sure all records are stored effectively and that the process is standardised to help ensure consistency and to save time.

Romec’s technical support team is on hand to give advice wherever necessary, ensuring that the job gets done – not only skilfully, but well within timescales and budgets.

Romec also employed a dedicated handyman to visit the site each week to carry out minor repairs, reducing costs for the client.

The Results

This approach has given Romec an opportunity to work more closely with the client and to implement and develop a wide range of additional services, including the effective replacement of roof-mounted cooling towers and remedial works at a water treatment plant, carried out by Romec’s own team and specialist subcontractors.

“A lot of hard work and excellent planning went into the contract – I feel the whole project went very well.”Alan Martin, McCarthy & Stone.
