Case Study: Royal Mail - Post Office Head Office

The Challenge


Royal Mail Group has created a hub for the head office of the Post Office at 148 Old Street in London. Following the refurbishment, they were looking for a cost saving customer focused service and approached Romec Office Management to provide the solution.

The Solution


Romec worked closely with the Post Office and other Royal Mail Group departments housed in Old Street and agreed solutions from a number of cost saving proposals and improvements that Romec could deliver.

The first was a slicker front of house service, provided by two full-time Security Industry Authority (SIA) trained and licensed Receptionists and three Security Officers. Romec provided in-house mailroom and porterage services and expanded the central helpdesk, which is not only the first point of contact for all general enquiries, but provides meeting room bookings and requirements, fault reporting, ID card photos and application forms and the coordination of first aid and fire warden training. Also the home of the Royal Mail Group main switchboard, Romec manage all telephone traffic from members of the public to ensure their call is handled professionally and efficiently. The responsibilities of each role were pre-agreed between Royal Mail Group and Romec.

The Office Management team portray a professional first impression as they are presented in the new corporate wear. A new training programme was introduced to ensure all employees are trained in as many areas as possible, providing committed best practice across the building. An area supervisor is now on site to oversee customer service operations and the management team within Romec’s own internal structure was also realigned to meet the needs of the customer.

The Results


The result has been the offering of service marvel and with substantial cost savings for Royal Mail Group. Romec worked in partnership with the Post Office to ensure the promise of world class service is consistently delivered. The Post Office at 148 Old Street has become a head office enthusing professionalism.
