Romec's Apprentice Development Week

Romec's Apprentice Development Week is a well-established part of turning young people into fully-fledged Romec engineers.

It consists of a full week in the glorious surroundings of Lake Windermere during August. Exercises include rock-climbing, trekking through mountain streams, abseiling down rock faces, climbing and other character building activities.

Each activity is carefully designed to help apprentices explore the attributes they will need to become successful managers - teamwork, trust, support and communication.

However, as the course co-ordinator explains, it is also a chance for people to stretch themselves and build their self-confidence.

We aim to get these young people to break through the barriers and see what they can do - they are often surprised at their own capabilities.

The development week stretches apprentices - helping them overcome a fear of heights, working in uncomfortable and tricky situations and (perhaps the most daunting of all) presenting to Romec's managing director Mike Sparrow.

"Our apprentices are extremely important to the company. Romec's future is dependent on attracting and keeping high-calibre apprentices to boost its engineering workforce. This long established Romec development week is a key element in this and a long-term investment for the company that will reap dividends in the months and years ahead."
