Case Study: Innovation Centre Installation

The Challenge


The Centre opened its doors in September 2009 but the journey started months before when it was just office space that needed to be transformed into a flexible state of the art facility that has meeting rooms, a dynamic exhibition space, café area, new washroom facilities and a refurbished inviting open reception area, to create that 'first impression, every time'.

Romec challenged its own team, within Building Services Installation (BSI) to make the transformation a showcase reality.

The Solution


BSI worked closely with the Innovation team to transform the office space. The first task was to strip the rooms and remove partitions into an open plan shell. The team then built the new infrastructure with the mechanical and electrical needs for the new facility.

This included the latest in meeting room reservation technology, T5 energy efficient lighting, the leading edge sound masking for the meeting rooms, to allow for efficient and confidential use of the space, fire proof glass walls to the reception right down to touch less technology in the washrooms. The exhibition space was built with specific zones that take a visitor on a journey through the centre, which needed to allow for flexibility to change when new innovations are introduced. So the Installation team worked closely with the team to ensure the infrastructure installation could cope and be flexible enough for the future.

The Results


The £250,000 facility opened its doors on time and to budget, demonstrating the technology and innovations Romec and its suppliers can provide as part of its world class service.
